Traditionally, IT Services have been provided using a break /fix model. The break / fix model is just
that; something breaks, you call your IT service provider, they come to your site and fix the problem and then the IT service company sends you a bill.

The problem with this model is that there is no real consideration for the intangible costs of an outage or
a failure. In a perfect world you would have a backup no older than a few hours, you would have a
spare work station lying around, you would have an easy way to your employee to move to a new office
or a new station. The problem is that we don’t live in a perfect world. Even in that perfect world you
would have lost ½ minimum of productive time plus the disruption of repair services. In most worlds
you would have lost significantly more in lost productive time and maybe even additional hardware and
services costs.

For some of us the internet is both good and bad, but what it does allow us to do is give us the tools to
move away from a break / fix model for IT services and move to a real time / full time managed model
for IT services.

We know (or we ought to know) that in the long term preventative maintenance or pro-active
maintenance will result in lower overall costs of operation and lower overall costs of maintenance. This
is what RMM brings to the table.

By monitoring your computer hardware 24×7 we can monitor trends in performance and behavior,
explicitly control the application of patches and updates to your computers and look for key indicators of
threats, virus’s or malware. We also monitor all work station and server event logs and all disk, memory
and CPU performance indicators.

OK, its not perfect but if we can see the hints of a problem (disk drives fail SMART testing, event log
errors, system performance errors) we schedule preventative maintenance rather than having to act only
when the failure presents itself.

What Specifically does RMM Do?

  • 24×7 (once each 15 minutes) and once daily checks of system operation including anti-virus status, backup status, critical event log checks, drive space change checks, hacker checks (login failures), physical disk status (SMART tests), file size checks, and all operating windows services checks
  • 24 x 7 monitoring of system performance parameters (disk read/write performance, memory utilization and CPU utilization)
  • Integrated patch management, all patches are reviewed and enabled to the work station or the server when authorized, no more guessing if you should install the patch or not
  • Detailed computer hardware inventory reports
  • Detailed computer software licensing reports
  • Daily / weekly client reports
  • Supporting all versions of Windows and MAC OSX
  • Alert emails when any daily or 24×7 check fails and also when any daily or 24×7 check identifies a restored service (configurable and optional to the client)
  • Mobile device management (android and iOS (iPad, iPod)) which includes password access control, remote wipe, remote lock, reporting on installed APPS, Active Sync Status and in some cases device location service (depends on the configuration of the device)
  • Remote restarts / reboots of device
